Navigating ETIM’s Product Groups, Classes and Features
If you are a manufacturer of electro-technical products for the UK market, here we walk you through the preparatory work you can do using ETIM’s online Classification Management Tool, to start getting your data ETIM ready.
This is really valuable preparation ahead of the ETIM-UK Working Groups which are about to start. ETIM-UK Working Groups will bring together the experts in a product field who will work together to tailor ETIM-UK.
Walking you through in 6 easy steps
There are just 6 easy steps and, remember, David Bate the EDA’s ETIM-UK Project Manager is on hand to help if you have a question – 07740 425 725 or 020 3141 7350.
Step 1: Visit the ETIM International website. Click on Classification Management Tool (CMT) which is right at the top of the home page.
Step 2: Once you’ve clicked through, you’ll see Entities at the top of the page, with a drop down menu. Select Groups.
Step 3: These are all the Product Groups currently available in ETIM. Select the Group you wish to view. Let’s use Cables as an example, so click on that Product Group.
Step 4: Click on the second tab – Classes in this group – to view all the Classes available in this Group. You’ll notice column headed Class Version – if the number is in a green circle it is live and published. If it is a number in a red circle, that means that this Class is no longer in use.
Step 5: Click on the Class you want to inspect. Let’s use Coaxial cable as an example, and you’ll see there are currently 28 Product Features in this Product Class.
Step 6: On the right hand side of this screen you’ll see a Show/Hide Values button. Click this and it will expand to show you all the Features in this class.
Now you can map or match your products to these Features and you’ll start to see if there are gaps or where further work is required to tailor ETIM-UK.
This is the valuable information that will be needed in the product-specific ETIM-UK Working Groups.
